Scrolls
On one day in 1992, at Fort Mason Art Center, an old man came to me with a heavy roll of butcher paper and gave me the whole roll; I had just ran out of my drawing paper. I was drawing perhaps close to one thousand sheets a year. Without knowing that it would become my first scroll, I began to draw. With no plans ahead, I drew and drew. Several months later when I finished, I rolled out the whole thing for the first time. It was about 40 feet long, yes, one piece. Since then, I have finished 6 scrolls. The 5th scroll can be viewed online. |
